RIP TorrentSpy

This is a sad sad day! I feel that all torrents are just being hindered by all this legal bullshit, and its going to continue one way or the other! Just let us do it efficiently and the users can enjoy it fully and the content providers can reap the full benefits of there content getting out into the public. R.I.P 03/24/08 TorrentSpy

Story by torrentfreak.com:

TorrentSpy is no more, Justin Bunnell, the founder of the site writes: “We have decided on our own, not due to any court order or agreement, to bring the TorrentSpy.com search engine to an end and thus we permanently closed down worldwide on March 24, 2008.”

The main reason for the shutdown is the ongoing legal battle with the MPAA, which started February 2006. “We now feel compelled to provide the ultimate method of privacy protection for our users - permanent shutdown,” Justin writes.

By the end of 2006 TorrentSpy was more popular than any other BitTorrent site, but this changed quickly in August 2007, when a federal judge ordered TorrentSpy to log all user data. The judge ruled that TorrentSpy had to monitor its users in order to create detailed logs of their activities, and hand these over to the MPAA.

In a response to this decision - and to ensure the privacy of their users - TorrentSpy decided that it was best to block access to all users from the US. This led to a huge decrease in traffic and revenue.

This was not enough for the MPAA, who argued that TorrentSpy had ignored the court decision. The legal battle continued, and this eventually led to a preventative closure of the site by Justin, to protect the privacy of its users.

Brokep from The Pirate Bay had this to say about the closure: “Today all big torrent sites are pressured somehow. TPB has its share of pressure, however we expected it and have a legal system that is more just in cases like this. The way that the copyright lobby is going at this is totally wrong and we can’t let them win. And we won’t let them win. Today we reached a loss of a site, but it was more a person having to give up for economical reasons than anything else. The copyright lobby has their big cards - money and influence. In the long run they will have to give up as well. And when they do, I’ll go to the US and buy Justin a well-deserved beer.”

At this point it is not clear what will happen to the TorrentSpy.com domain. The domain was offered to other BitTorrent site owners, but has not yet been sold.

Love the Harry Potter Series?

Filed under: Movies, Ramblings, Rants — Abdalla Ahmed @ 12:44 pm

I love digg, you always find out whats the latest in the world and what I found out today shocked me! I always used to love the Harry Potter series for its wild imagination and sorcery but when I found out that Dumbledore is gay I was left bewildered as to why J.K Rowling would mention or do such a thing regarding a children’s book series.

Warning: This Post Contains Spoilers of Book 7

I wont say I have nothing against homosexuals because I do (god created Adam & Eve not Adam & Steve) but talking about such things and hinting at them in the books is simply insane. As the first comment on the digg post says, when is she gonna reveal the whole series is gay?

JKR: My truthful answer to you… I always thought of Dumbledore as gay. [ovation.] … Dumbledore fell in love with Grindelwald, and that that added to his horror when Grindelwald showed himself to be what he was.

To an extent, do we say it excused Dumbledore a little more because falling in love can blind us to an extend, but he met someone as brilliant as he was, and rather like Bellatrix he was very drawn to this brilliant person, and horribly, terribly let down by him.

Yeah, that’s how i always saw Dumbledore. In fact, recently I was in a script read through for the sixth film, and they had Dumbledore saying a line to Harry early in the script saying I knew a girl once, whose hair… [laughter]. I had to write a little note in the margin and slide it along to the scriptwriter, “Dumbledore’s gay!” [laughter] “If I’d known it would make you so happy, I would have announced it years ago!” (J.K Rowling Talking with an interview)

Among this stupid bit of news, we have one happy fact and that is Neville gets married to Hannah Abbott of hufflepuff (the wimps).

Top 20 “Drama” TV shows III

Filed under: Movies, Random Fun, Television — izzy @ 2:29 am

TOP 10-6 TV “Drama” Shows

10. Prison Break

This is a show that got so many people hooked. It is full of suspense and action. Most of the people I know have this show as their favorite show now. Once you start watching it you won’t stop. It is a smart simple show with a realistic not over the top storyline. I have started watching the show recently I’m now on season 2. It is not one of my favorites though and the dialog and story get a bit cheesy sometimes. Still it made the top 10 and many people loved it so I’m giving it a chance.

9. Nip/Tuck

This is the second medical Drama show in our list . The only reason I say it’s a medical drama is that it deals with plastic surgeons. Beware this is the SICKEST, SEXIEST show out there. Every episode starts with “Tell us what don’t like about yourself” and the people that come for plastic surgery are mostly sick in the head ranging from a guy wanting boob implants to a Micheal Jackson wanna be, to drug dealers smuggling cocaine in prostitutes boobs. Every episode the plastic surgery operations are shown with the most awesome music playing and they make it feel so cool to be a plastic surgeon. That’s not it, the main characters have a story and it is sicker than the patients story. This is a must see show and it is an FX cable show you can’t go wrong with cable specially HBO. This is one of my favorite shows that I recommend for everyone.

8. ER

This is the third Medical show in our list . Of-course, this is the original where would shows like House , Nip/Tuck , Rescue Me , Grey’s anatomy , Scrubs be without ER. Where would George Clooney be without ER. ER is a TV phenomenon and it captivated so many people . It has been going on forever and it is still watched by many people and it won’t stop any time soon. I have always watched random episodes and I would love to jump into the ER wagon one day.

7. Grey’s Anatomy

“Nobody knows where they might end up” that’s the theme song for this show. It is a medical show by all definition and We all love it and it’s great and I can go on forever. I simply love this show. The acting is SUPER it’s by far the best acting cast in all TV shows second to the number one show on our list. I can watch each episode over and over again and never get bored. They call me Izzy for the reason that I’m obsessed with that Grey’s anatomy character. I don’t know how to describe this show but here is what I’ll say, just WATCH IT. This is one of my favorite shows and I recommend it for everyone.

6. LOST

The cult phenomenon of LOST. The most talked about show in history. If you haven’t started watching LOST yet then no offense you are ( a work place suitable synonym for stupid) . What are you waiting for?? LOST took TV by storm when it started. The first episode was the most expensive episode ever made in the history of TV. Each episode is seen through flashbacks of a character. It is not a simple show about people lost in an island if anyone thinks that without seeing the show then again no offense they are ( a work place suitable synonym for stupid). Everyone and everything is connected, everything happens for a reason. It is number one in mystery, suspense , symbolism and theories. I guarantee after every episode watched there will be a half hour discussion about the episode. Almost every episode ends with a twist. Congratulations to Locke for winning best supporting actor he is my favorite. This is my Favorite show in all the list right after the number one show. I recommend this show for everyone
