A Firsthand Account of Cramming

Filed under: Rants, digg — kingkong @ 3:23 pm

The Federal Trade Commission calls this “the practice of placing unauthorized, misleading, or deceptive charges on your telephone bill.” Crammers rely on confusing telephone bills in an attempt to trick consumers into paying for services they did not authorize or receive, or that cost more than the consumer was led to believe.

Windows XP Service Pack 3 on Windows Update!!

Filed under: Rants, Windows — kingkong @ 8:19 pm

Hey y’all after all the anticipation the Windows XP sp3 it has been released on windows update! There was a crazy problem with “XP update in conjunction with its Microsoft Dynamics Retail Management System” which resulted in a huge loss of rapport with customer, which makes Microsoft even more incompetent in the eyes of the users and customer! Can’t they just update something without having a major flaw appear in the final steps? Anyways Microsoft as quickly coded up a filter which allows one or the other to run but not both. It doesn’t solve the core problem but it allows users to update to the latest release, while they “try” to figure out a solution. Beyond Binary says:

A week ago, Microsoft delayed the release of Windows XP Service Pack 3 because of a problem that could lead to data loss when running the XP update in conjunction with its Microsoft Dynamics Retail Management System program. It also halted automatic updates to Windows Vista Service Pack 1 because of a similar issue.

The software maker on Tuesday said it is releasing XP Service Pack 3 for Web downloads, and resuming automatic updates to Vista Service Pack 1, after developing a filter that will prevent machines running Dynamics RMS from getting either update.

What does the new service pack do? Actually nothing for the average user, but it does have some security updates which come in handy, and therefore it can be a good and solid choice to update!

hahahahahah Earth Hour. Earth nanosecond at best!

Filed under: Global, Rants — kingkong @ 7:12 pm

So I am hearing the noise around the jungle ( pronounce: university) that this Saturday, that it’s supposed to be Earth Hour, between the hours of 8:00 and 9:00 pm! I think is a serious delusion, do you seriously believe people will stop reading my blog for an hour!? By that mere fact alone, will keep the power on, also what the hell do we gain other than a horrible hour, of boredom and time waste (thats a real battle to fight, unlike abortion and pandas). Its not all wall socket power appliances its all battery powered electronics, the whole sha-banga bang! Now picture yourself, sitting in front of your powerless laptop, no more churning hard drives, buzzing wall sockets, no more blissful, windows errors nothing! FOR AN HOUR! In my opinion its useless it won’t succeed and even if it does, what did we gain. More energy? more self control? did we do anything to help with world out of the situation it is in now? No! No! and No! Thats why i am saying if you want to turn off your electronics between the hours of 8-9pm on Saturday March 29th 2008, your more than welcome but don’t go to sleep feeling as if you did something. When in all actuality you did nothing than power down your iPod for an hour, and sit there in candle light. ( you badass mother- shut your mouth!)

Hello Google I would Like to Order a Page Rank

Filed under: Google, Rants — kingkong @ 1:00 am

So I was swinging around the blogging world and I have recently found out that the Copyblogger got his PR increased just by talking to Google. But fortunately for him that they made a critical error that he was accused of selling links when he wasn’t but, unfortunately for us Google doesn’t make mistakes too often, this isn’t a hack for any sorts, but i thought it would provide for a good anecdote. Here it is.

b5: “Umm… Google?”

Google: “Yes?”

b5: “Is this PageRank thing supposed to penalize bloggers who are in blog networks?”

Google: “No, this is a warning to those who sell links.”

b5: “Umm… well, Copyblogger has never sold links.”

Google: “Really?”

b5: “Really.”

Google: “Whoops. Well, we have a problem.”

b5: “What’s that?”

Google: “We’re fresh out of PR 6 designations for this update.”

b5: “What? Are you kidding?”

Google: “How does a nice PR 7 sound?”

b5: “Let me ask Brian.” (pretends to call me)

b5: “Ok, he says that’s fine.”

Google: “Great. Sorry again.”

Note: The part about Google being out of PR 6 designations is a joke, as is the part about having to “give” me a 7. The 7 is the Page Rank the blog would have had anyway but for the “warning” that wasn’t applicable to me. Just to be clear.

Don’t ask me what b5 is supposed to mean, I have no clue :?:
