Buy a Dell 19-inch LCD Monitor, get a free PC!

Filed under: Tech — kingkong @ 3:02 pm

Okay, not really–the Dell Vostro mini-tower PC sells for $349 and comes with the aforementioned monitor, which is a pretty amazing deal any way you look at it. Granted, you’ll have to live with a pokey Intel Celeron processor (does the phrase “molasses in winter” mean anything?), but at least you get 1GB of RAM and Windows XP as your OS. (You can also get Vista Home Basic, but does the phrase “molasses in Russian winter” mean anything?)

Other specs include an 80GB hard drive, DVD/CD-RW drive, and 1-year warranty. So, yeah, this is the system to get for your kids or grandparents–folks who have fairly basic computing needs. But you better hurry: Dell’s Vostro notebooks went on sale yesterday, and today they’re sold out. These desktops won’t last, either.

gOS

Filed under: Google, Tech — kingkong @ 9:53 pm

I bet everyone around the world is wondering, what happened to good old Microsoft systems? But at the same they are welcoming new Operating systems daily. gOs is one of those new systems that interacts with the user and limits the complexity of most systems, like windows. gOS just works, I have tried how the system works smooth and beautiful design and web 2.0 integration. gOS is a Linux based system and reflects such standards.

This computer has a 1.5-gigahertz Via processor, 512 megabytes of memory and an 80-gigabyte hard drive. What makes it stand out, however, is GOS, a version of Linux specially made to run Google applications like GMail and Google Documents. It also runs OpenOffice, an open-source office suite that can handle Microsoft Word documents, and some multimedia applications.

This PC is being touted as the green PC of the computing world, but from what I have seen that this more like the Google PC. I might seem as Google’s first step into the operating system world. But thats wishful thinking. The machine is out of the box ready much like the Mac systems. The clean and simple layout and ease of use is extremely attractive, and i think if Linux keeps this up Microsoft is in for a run for their money.

OSX Leopard On PC

Filed under: Hacks, Tech — kingkong @ 3:00 am

Ladies and gentleman, the guys over at dailyapps, have posted the most recent escapades of installing Apple OS on PCs with limited effort and struggle, the guys at dailyapps have had some server troubles due to this post! Its some crazy stuff we are hoping for the same effect here at the KKBlog, digg it y’all!

They advise you to have all of the following before you attempt to install OS X Leopard

Make sure you backup all important data before you proceed. Here are the things that you will need before Install Leopard on your PC…

  • The Patched DVD Image
  • The zip file containing the patch
  • One pen drive or USB Flash Drive formatted as FAT32

Well once you have all these you can go ahead and Install Leopard..

I haven’t tried it over here but they say that it will install but they don’t guarantee anything driver and device wise. I always enjoy taking on experiments of this nature so it isn’t bad for having fun, but i wouldn’t recommend keeping it as your main OS! Here is the link to the steps for installing OS X Leopard [dailyapps]

MaliSpace - An Exciting New Project?

Filed under: Blogging, Tech — Abdalla Ahmed @ 3:05 pm

What I always look for as a blogger online, is more links and exposure for my current blog and upon that note I am happy to say that when we got an email from the owners over at malispace.com we where more than happy to join their new adventure.

Think of MaliSpace as a online RSS Reader. What we do is syndicate the RSS of other quality blogs (only excerpts) and publish it to our website. This is all done automatically and in 10 minute intervals.

MaliSpace.com is a blog thats essentially dedicated to other blogs - Sounds weird huh? What they do is automatically publish excerpts of posts that have just been published on other blogs WITH the permission of the original blog owner of course. At a first glance it looks like a cheap way to blog and sit back and do nothing but then again, a blog that publishes excerpts (around 50 words of your post) and promotes it for you (title of blog post goes to your post) and gives you a FREE PR2 Linkback? What else could we want?

The idea is to allow users worldwide to visit MaliSpace and see whats going on in the “blogosphere” as we speak, kind of like an online RSS Reader but with the benefit going to the original author as the post is only an excerpt (50 words/4 lines) and the permalink (title of post) is linked back to the original author. The title will be linked to your post via your RSS FEED and you will also have a free linkback via our blogroll for the duration of your continued partnership with us.

All they ask for return is your permission to use your blog RSS FEED and away you go.

So in summary:

Free Listing, FREE PR2 Link back and Free Traffic and Exposure? Get me in there!!

MaliSpace - Get Your Blog “Collected”

Oh, flattery while writing an email will always get you somewhere

Review: Apple Mac OS X Leopard

Filed under: Tech — kingkong @ 2:53 am

Seven months late and two and a half years after the last upgrade, Apple’s latest operating system is finally here. The new version, Mac OS X 10.5, better known as Leopard, has more than 300 new features, but how much of a difference will users notice?

This is basically, what all the online sources and OS reviewers have been saying about the new MAC OS, but lets be honest MACs are know for what? gaming? powerful computers? NO! They are mostly know for breaking the barrier between the style.functionality, and ease of use! The new OS bring more of that company saving charm MAC is know for! Being a short time admirer of the Mackintosh computers, I understand the appeal they have to the public as of know, the main reason i am now even considering a MAC for next computer is that they incorporated the new intel core duo chips into there motherboards, which allows for running of all types of OS, which widen the usability and flexibility of both the system and the user. The delays have so far been due to the recent releases of such hardware ( pronounced “eye candy”) such as the iTouch and the iPhone which they decided to ride the wave before making another big splash which limits the full media impact. For example think of Apples latest releases as pebbles being thrown into a pond this creating ripples, the ripples can be seen as buzz and fuss over the newest item, so they wait for the pond to calm down thus creating the greatest exposure for the product, and them wow them again, i my opinion this is the reason why Apple Inc. is doing so well!

The jump from the old OS to the new OS X Leopard, wont be as a big of a jump and Windows XP to Windows Vista. OS X Leopard has had a giant overhaul compare to its predecessor such overhauls include, 3D Dock and they have integrated cover flow into the file system!

As well as the new coat of paint, there are more substantial changes and additions such as Stacks, Time Machine and Spaces. Stacks is a new way of grouping together multiple programs into categories such as office or photography.

Time Machine is an automatic system backup application that will create copies of files on an external drive, so you can fly back in time to access files you might have deleted. It is, of course, graphically impressive and easy to use, but also an incredibly powerful and impressive bit of kit.

So what does this monkey say the bottom of the line, well if your going to buy it for the gloss and flash, i would wait a couple months let the system get the kinks out, but if your buying it for improved security and time machine, then I would recommend it if your need it!
