Animate Windows

Filed under: Windows — kingkong @ 6:52 pm

Windows only: Freeware application Lebendig adds snazzy, lightweight animations to your windows—like spinning a window as you launch it or fading out when you close it. Apps like Lebendig aren’t uncommon, but Lebendig does set itself apart by using very little memory while still adding a little snap to your daily computing. It’s not the eye candy of Aero, but it’s a good way to avoid some of that UI jealousy that you’re bound to have using XP every day. Then again, if you’re really getting jealous of some of Vista’s best feature check out some crazy stuff here.

Windows XP Service Pack 3 on Windows Update!!

Filed under: Rants, Windows — kingkong @ 8:19 pm

Hey y’all after all the anticipation the Windows XP sp3 it has been released on windows update! There was a crazy problem with “XP update in conjunction with its Microsoft Dynamics Retail Management System” which resulted in a huge loss of rapport with customer, which makes Microsoft even more incompetent in the eyes of the users and customer! Can’t they just update something without having a major flaw appear in the final steps? Anyways Microsoft as quickly coded up a filter which allows one or the other to run but not both. It doesn’t solve the core problem but it allows users to update to the latest release, while they “try” to figure out a solution. Beyond Binary says:

A week ago, Microsoft delayed the release of Windows XP Service Pack 3 because of a problem that could lead to data loss when running the XP update in conjunction with its Microsoft Dynamics Retail Management System program. It also halted automatic updates to Windows Vista Service Pack 1 because of a similar issue.

The software maker on Tuesday said it is releasing XP Service Pack 3 for Web downloads, and resuming automatic updates to Vista Service Pack 1, after developing a filter that will prevent machines running Dynamics RMS from getting either update.

What does the new service pack do? Actually nothing for the average user, but it does have some security updates which come in handy, and therefore it can be a good and solid choice to update!

BootTimer Measures Startup Times!

Filed under: Apps, Windows — kingkong @ 9:01 pm

Every wonder how long exactly it takes your computer to restart!? Well this monkey has and especially puts to rest the ever ending argument between me and the other monkeys, who’s computer boots faster!? You can also try to optimize boot times using this method trying out different boot sequences seeing which results in the fastest start up time!

Unfortunately, the program then takes the opportunity to send you to an Internet site for feedback and product endorsements. The program warns users against using the keyboard or mouse, but some users must do so to correctly load certain processes. This results in an inaccurate result from PC Boot Timer. PC Boot Timer gives the user no indication of the amount of time needed for each part of the boot process. The display of only a total time doesn’t help a user pinpoint boot problems.

WARNING: there are some ads and promotion after the time is given, no shareware or ad ware though!

Task Switch XP

Filed under: Apps, Windows — kingkong @ 3:06 am

This monkey recently switched back from Vista to XP, nothing great about the switch its just my laptop was running a bit long on memory with Firefox 2, eating away at my memory i need a really simple and good OS, which is stable and allows me to watch Flash Videos in real full screen ( ahem Ubuntu). Now what i got used to when i was using Vista is the useful previews it gives you when your using Alt+Tab and when i went back to XP i was in the dark again not know which was a blog post or which was the latest .pdf of the my resume. Since Windows XP, only shows the logo of the application pretty slick back in 2000, but all things can’t be timeless, well maybe somethings can.

Heres how it looks:
